FROM THE SPIRIT - SEASON III
For this series, Earth Magic Media Inc. traveled to Roberts, Montana; Seattle, Washington; Kippens, Newfoundland; Mississauga, Ontario; Comox and Kelowna, British Columbia and Behchoko, Northwest Territories. Five of the artists are painters however the other two are more unusual in their choice of artistic medium. (7 x 24:00)

Kevin Red Star:
Born and still lives in Lodge Grass, Montana and is a member of the Crow tribe. He is known for conjuring evocative images of his ancestral Crow tribe, its culture and history.

Preston Singletary: From Seattle, Preston has been called a “bridge artist” between the two artistic traditions of the Northwest Coast and glassmakers. He attended the Pilchuck Glass School in Seattle, Washington, where glass artists from all over the world come to learn. He says, “Glass is among newest mediums to be adapted to Northwest coast imagery, possible because the two have a shared artistic legacy of being fine art as well as for utilitarian purposes.”

Michael Massie: Originally from Labrador and now lives in Kippens, Newfoundland. Michael made his mark on the Inuit art world in 1990 when he produced his first silver teapot as well as silversmithing. Michael also carves stone and wood and is experimenting with other media.

LauraLee K. Harris: From Mississauga, Ontario. She discovered, through an uncle, that her “French” Grandfather was also Sioux, Cree, Chipewyan, Ojibwe and Montagnais. Her unique paintings are done on wood, utilizing and incorporating the natural grain to create beautiful organic works.

Andy Everson: was born in Comox, British Columbia, and has always been driven to uphold the traditions of both the K’omoks and Kwakwaka’waka First Nations. Andy began drawing Northwest Coast art at an early age and has followed in the footsteps of his Kwakiutl ancestors in creating bold and unique representations that remain rooted in the age-old traditions.

Lee Claremont:
is a painter of Mohawk/Irish ancestry. She is a well-respected instructor at the En’owkin Centre, an internationally recognized Aboriginal Educational College in the Okanagan Valley, BC. “My art making takes me to a place of creation, soaring with Skywoman to create an eclectic perception of nature, people, spirituality and Mother Earth.”

James Wedzin: from Behchoko (Fort Rae), Northwest Territories, praises his grandmother for inspiring and encouraging his early interest in traditional art. He watched her create intricate bead work endlessly and developed his own sense of art style. James is known for his northern landscapes, animal imagery and northern lights.
